The launch of ‘Silver Chariot’ – One Affordable Voyage. Many Worlds.

March 08, 2010

Mr. Janardhana Reddy, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure development, Govt. of Karnataka, launched ‘Silver Chariot’ – a new offering from KSTDC.

Launching the Economy version of The Golden Chariot, luxury tourist train itinerary, Silver Chariot, Mr. Reddy said that the Tourism Department and KSTDC received so many suggestions to create a slightly more affordable version of the train itinerary to enable more travelers to visit and experience the state’s rich heritage. ‘We are now giving an option to people who wanted to experience Karnataka’s treasures comfortably, but who didn’t have the necessary spending ability with an affordable option. Affordable doesn’t mean that they (travelers) will be denied comforts. Travellers who book this itinerary will travel in the comforts of an Air Conditioned Volvo coach. Apart from heritage, places like Coorg and Bhadra are also added in the itinerary to give a glimpse of the rich nature and wildlife products in the state.’ He said.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy pointed out that KSTDC by turning more traveller-friendly, is redefining the ethos of the Corporation. ‘In the last 1 year and more, the Corporation has done a great job in positioning itself differently and importantly more friendly to travelers. A number of hotels have been renovated and made as good as any other. The objective is to get more people and also the tourism trade across the country to use these hotels. That is now starting to happen.’
